Well this should be exciting! Beloved hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest and renowned comedian Dave Chappelle have both been tapped to make their debut on Saturday Night Live on November 12th. Chappelle has been performing regularly as of late, though this will be his first large scale appearance in a number of years. Meanwhile, A Tribe Called Quest is getting ready to release a brand new album next Friday, November 11th.The new ATCQ album will feature all of the group’s members for one final recording, captured in the months before Phife Dawg passed away. Titled We Got It From Here, Thank You for Your Service, the latest information shows that André 3000, Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, Elton John, and Busta Rhymes are all featured contributors on the new release. While A Tribe Called Quest will never be the same without Phife Dawg, it would seem that their appearance on SNL comes as direct support for the new album. It’s unclear who would take over for Phife in the live setting. This will also be the group’s first performance since reuniting back in 2015 on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a performance that ultimately kicked off the process for the new album. Watch their “Can I Kick It?” from that night, below.
29 May 2007Limpopo province will spend R76-million on upgrading the international airport in Polokwane and domestic airports in Giyani and Thohoyandou in preparation for the 2010 Fifa World Cup.“We still have to do some work on improving conditions at the Giyani and Thohoyandou airports since these areas are going to be used to host some of the clubs for soccer practice sessions,” said the provincial minister for roads and transport, Justice Piitso.Presenting his department’s budget in Polokwane last week, Piitso said a further study was underway to investigate the possibility of turning Thohoyandou airport into an aviation academy.Work is also in progress to turn the Polokwane international airport into a state-of-the-art facility and logistical hub for both cargo and passenger transport. In 2006, the department spent R13-million to improve navigational aid and R10-million on the construction of part of the terminal building.“This year we have set aside R28-million for the completion of the terminal building, R31-million for the construction of infrastructure at the cargo hub and R17-million for the development of the Aero City,” Piitso added. The Aero City will include parking for cars, buses, taxis and rental cars, feeder roads and ring roads around the terminal building. It will also include water, sewerage and electrical networks for the terminal building area, passenger walkways and a wash bay and offices for car rental companies.“We have also successfully rationalised the three former airport boards – We now have one board for Gateway Airport Limited, charged with the responsibility of overseeing the turn-around of our airports,” Piitso said.“We believe that this will bring about efficient and effective management of these important institutions.”“Border-free” tourismEarlier this month, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique signed agreements to share the tourism spin-offs of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, through “border free” tourism packages. The Limpopo Tourism Parks Board, Zambia National Tourists Board, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Mozambique signed the agreement at the Tourism Indaba in Durban.Together, the parties are called the Limpopo-Zambezi Destination. The cooperation is premised in the view of the World Cup as an opportunity to position the region as a tourist destination of choice for visitors. The Limpopo-Zambezi Destination will undertake tourism research and collect data and statistics to help them gain better understanding of the profile of the present travellers and the needs of future market sectors. Some of the undertaking that would take place includes the branding for Limpopo-Zambezi Destination, and joint marketing strategies in support of the package tours. Also high on the agenda, was the easing of border formalities to ensure that the passage of travellers through border posts is swift and trouble free.Source: BuaNews
Bump, the mobile app that lets you share information with other people by bumping your phones together, announced tonight that it now has 25 million iPhone and Android users and has raised $16 million from hot investors Andreesen Horowitz, Google-backers Sequoia, early Google investor turned billionaire Ram Shriram and Silicon Valley godfather Ron Conway. What are these people funding? Bump is a fascinating integration of the online and offline worlds. It’s not the Apple-acquired super-intelligent voice-controlled Siri mobile personal assistant, it’s not the plug-and-pay Square dongle that raised twice as much venture capital just today, it’s not the maybe-it-will work Near Field Communication (NFC) chips that Google is putting in Android phones and in window stickers for businesses – it’s yet another new way for users to interact with mobile devices to get things done. We’ll probably get a chance to try them all in the fast-approaching world of mobile-enabled commerce.Bump is like the Shazzam of the mobile interface world, if you will. The app uses a mobile phone’s accelerometer and compass to send its location to the Bump servers whenever it vibrates. When Bump gets a signal that two phones have vibrated at the exact same moment in time, and in very close proximity, then the service presumes those two users are the intended recipients of one-anothers’ message or sharing action. It’s an ingenious idea. The company prominently features an Application Programming Interface, which allows its software to be integrated into other mobile apps as well. The Let’s Pour iPhone app for wine lovers, for example, uses the Bump API to share info about wine.Originally just for sharing contact information, Bump can now be used to share photos, music, calendar events and more. You can even send money between Bump users, via the company’s PayPal integration. That’s a big part of the future that the newly announced funding will let the company focus on, according to a conversation with the founders recounted on TechCrunch tonight. Bump sounds like it’s going to jump right into the mobile commerce market, and it’s not hard to picture it as a Square competitor. “Bump wants its experience to be very tangible,” wrote that blog’s Jason Kincaid. “Users won’t simply pull out their phones and fire up the app — they’ll walk into a venue and see a physical station to ‘Bump’ with in order to get whatever discount, data, or media the business is offering.”See also: Mobile Credit Card Swiping Battle Continues: A Look at 4 Rival TechnologiesThe disadvantage of course is that Bump still has a barrier to entry: app download. It’s not a Square dongle that can scan credit cards people already carry into an iPhone. It’s not mobile Facebook Credits you’ve already secured in exchange for renting a corner of your soul to Zynga. It’s something new and untrusted. Can a startup like this really go up against mobile giants like Google and Apple? Time will tell and there’s something about the feeling of Bump that makes me wonder if Microsoft will buy it someday. Either way, in the mean time, the rest of us get one more mode of interaction with our phones. Which would you rather perform transactions with, Bump, Square, Google NFC or maybe a future version of voice controlled artificial intelligence like Apple bought with its Siri acquisition? We’ll soon have lots of fun opportunities to bump, waggle, shake and talk to our mobile devices and find out. Learning keyboard shortcuts may seem daunting, but it’s worth the effort in speeding up your workflow! In this post, we’ll take a look at some of the most important Premiere Pro keyboard shortcuts.Any professional video editor will tell you, knowing keyboard is integral in having a speedy video editing workflow. You may already be familar with using shortcuts to edit in Final Cut Pro or Avid, and may not be keen on learning a new set of shortcuts for Adobe Premiere Pro. Do not fear! Premiere Pro offers the option of using either the FCP or Avid shortcuts if you prefer. To access these shortcuts from the menu bar click on Edit (on Windows) or Premiere Pro (on Mac). Then, select the Keyboards Shortcuts option:This will open the keyboard shortcuts option box. From here you can select which format you’d like to use from the top drop-down menu (includes CS6, CS5.5, Avid Media Composer 5 and Final Cut Pro 7 layout options).Selecting a Different Keyboard LayoutIt should also be noted that keyboard shortcuts are editable in Premiere Pro. To edit a shortcut, simply find the property you wish to add a shortcut to or change a shortcut for, and then select it. This will then bring forward the ‘Edit’ button:When you click the ‘Edit’ button the shortcut becomes editable and you can choose a new shortcut as needed. However, if you choose a shortcut that already exists you will get a warning message telling you that you have removed that shortcut from another tool! If this is OK, then click OK and carry on.Warning Message When Selecting An Existing ShortcutOtherwise, hit ‘Undo’ to take things back to how they were and then choose another shortcut.Essential Premiere Pro ShortcutsWhere should you start? Check out these must know shortcuts for navigating the timeline and choosing clips in Adobe Premiere Pro. Import: CTRL + I (PC) or CMD + I (Mac) Quickly import media into your Premiere Pro project with this handy shortcut. CTRL/CMD + I will bring up the import media dialog box. It is the same as choosing File>Import from the menu bar.Note that the shortcut is shown in the drop-down menu to help you learn it.When you see these, try and start to use them so that over time they can become a natural way of working.Choosing In and Out: I or O The next set of shortcuts have to do with selecting which parts of a clip you would like to use. If you are either hover scrubbing in the project panel (or you’ve double clicked the item to have it open in the source monitor) it is likely that you won’t want the whole clip. Instead, you’ll just want to select a portion of a clip. This is where you can use the I and O keys to select the IN and the OUT points of the clip you are looking at.For example, if hover scrubbing in the project panel – tap “I” to signal where you’d like to clip the start and “O” when you get to the part where you’d like it to end. Then, when you click on the clip in the project panel you will see an orange line denoting where you hit the I key and where you hit the O key (your in and out points). In and Out Points Selected For Clip in the Project PanelThe premise behind using the I and O keys is that you can use a combination of mouse and keyboard to quickly and easily select the portions of the clips you want. However, if you are finding that hover scrubbing isn’t precise enough for you then once the clip is selected you can use the next set of shortcuts.Video Editing Shortcuts for PremiereNote, the next set of Premiere Pro shortcuts are right under the I and O keys on a standard keyboard – this is not by accident!First, select a clip in the project panel, the source monitor, the timeline OR the program monitor. Tap L and the clip will play. Tap L again and the clip or timeline will play back faster. Tap K and it stops. Tap J and the clip or the timeline will play backwards. Tap again and it plays backwards faster and so on. These three keys are the basis of all video editing keyboard shortcuts and should be being used all the time in your workflow. In fact, you can even use them to play your clip or timeline in slow motion! Hold the ‘Shift’ key while you tap J or L and the timeline will play forwards or reverse in slow motion. Under the K/L keys are the ‘,‘ and ‘.‘ keys. When you’ve selected an In and an Out point for a clip in the project panel or the source monitor, the next thing you want to do is drop it on your Premiere Pro timeline. That is where these keys come in.The , key will cause an ‘Insert’ edit to take place. In other words, it will insert the clip into the timeline wherever your playhead is, while cutting and shifting down any clips to the right of the playhead (to make room for the clip you are inserting). The ‘.’ key will cause the selected clip to go to your timeline from the position of your playhead, overwriting any clip that may already be on the timeline. This is called an overwrite or overlay edit. These shortcuts are important because they enable you to select the portions of the clips you want to use and get them to your timeline quickly for editing. Now, with lots of clips in your timeline, start to use the up and down arrows to quickly move up and down the edit points in your timeline. There are obviously lots of other shortcuts that I could mention, but these are the essential shortcuts you must know to get started. You can always hover over the tools with your mouse in Premiere Pro and get a tool tip telling you what the keyboard shortcut is for that particular tool. Export: CTRL + M (PC) or CMD + M (Mac) The last shortcut I’ll give you for this post is Ctrl + M (PC) or Cmd + M (Mac). This will open the Export Settings dialogue box for a selected sequence, ready for you to set up for final export.Learn these simple shortcuts and you will quickly learn how much time using these can save you. I suspect that once you integrate them into your video editing workflow you’ll start looking for them more and more!

It’s an attempt at competitive integrity and condensing the competition to avoid the international break (nimble) while yet again messing with a format that might benefit from a little consistency (fidgety). After an initial play-in round, the contest is now a straight bracket. Seven teams will qualify from each conference, with only the winners of each conference receiving an automatic bye to the second round. The remaining six seeded teams will play 2 v 7, 3 v 6, 4 v 5 in single elimination games for the right to advance to the conference semi-finals — which, along with the final, will also be single knockout game. Share on WhatsApp Topics MLS president Mark Abbott has a fondness for describing the league as “nimble”. It’s a characterization that serves the league well during its more progressive moments (rapid expansion, a willingness to embrace technology, etc), though at other times it evokes some of the league’s historical flightiness and lightweight addiction to novelty over tradition. Where to place the tinkering of playoffs in this continuum?Yes, the MLS playoffs are changing format again for next year. In an attempt to reward regular-season excellence, while balancing the desires of owners to maintain interest at the gates throughout the year, the playoff field has been expanded. Meanwhile, the route to MLS Cup for lower-ranked teams has become more of an exercise in threading the needle than the current format. So the Supporters Shield winner, for example, will play their entire post-season, including a possible final, at home. A team seeded 14th could only win MLS Cup by winning four straight games on the road. The whole competition would be wrapped up by mid-November — rolling back the slow creep of the MLS post-season in recent years. So, gone are the short turnaround play-in games that immediately cut the field by a third while nobody’s watching (the two day ticket sale lead-in to Halloween games had some predictable attendance outcomes). Gone are the two legged conference finals whose scheduling somehow always seemed to tilt the balance of power away, rather than towards, the team with the higher regular season finish. Gone too is the awkward international break hiatus that used to kill momentum right in the middle of the conference finals. And gone too are the December MLS Cups, which too often left fans watching teams like Toronto with chattering teeth. It will be a brisk three-week race to the title, with the fixed bracket evoking other competitive institutions such as March Madness — in what may help pitches to TV and sponsors.Compared to the current format, and beyond a snappier schedule, the improvements seem obvious. Home advantage should matter, but under the current format, in the short turnaround from Decision Day to the midweek play-in games, higher seeded clubs can struggle to fill their stadiums. If anything, the flat atmosphere in Dallas, for example, favored Portland Timbers this year, and they duly dispatched the hosts and moved on, with momentum, to host the first-leg of their conference semi-final against the Sounders, en route to an MLS Cup appearance. In the new format, a Timbers win would likely have only earned them another trip on the road for another single game knockout match. Win that game and results elsewhere might see them host the Western Conference final, but then be on the road again for MLS Cup. Don’t like it? Finish higher in the regular season.Of all the revisions, the expanded field may initially be the most controversial. The criticism of the regular season is that it’s way too forgiving of inconsistent teams, and doesn’t sufficiently reward the teams who played well all year. The league’s logic is that modestly growing the field will actually keep the proportion of qualifying teams roughly where it is now, as the era of rapid expansion continues to add to the number of teams in the league.Supporters of the current system might argue that after the crapshoot of the play-in games, the two-legged system for conference semi-finals and finals is a fairer referendum on who should progress. It’s a format that notionally favors disciplined teams like Columbus and Sporting KC as they execute a plan over two legs to see off more mercurial opponents (both lost their conference semi-finals this year for what it’s worth). And again, win your conference, host your games. If you then lose at home, with time to sell tickets, you can’t have many complaints. The new format will still mean some abrupt exits, but whereas Dallas, DC Philadelphia and LAFC were bundled out of the playoffs having barely absorbed being in them in the first place, the new format promises to build from the momentum leading to the regular season Decision Day, while still maintaining some of the meaningful advantages earned by teams over the course of many months. So is this all for the better? It can certainly be wearying watch MLS roll out format tweaks and rule changes like so many patches for buggy software, without fixing the underlying architecture. But in this case, assuming playoffs are an unshakeable part of American soccer and sporting culture (and they are), this is about as strong a recalibration as it’s possible to get.Just don’t get comfortable with it. features Reuse this content Share on Messenger Zack Steffen is unlikely to ever play for Man City. CALGARY – Calgary-based Enerplus Corp. plans to continue to pour money into its North Dakota light oil play this year after crediting it with fourth-quarter profits that handily beat analyst expectations. The company will invest 90 per cent of its 2018 capital budget of between $535 million and $585 million in the United States, most in North Dakota Bakken light oil wells, where production is expected to grow by 30 per cent.It is also planning to drill up to three new oil wells on a new project in Colorado after strong results from its first well drilled last year.“For the last while, it’s been pretty easy to put money into the U.S. and it’s been harder to put money into Canada,” CEO Ian Dundas said on a conference call.He said the decision by Enerplus to concentrate on North Dakota a few years ago was based on its superior prospects and wasn’t an “anti-Canada call.” But he added falling corporate taxes in the U.S. and higher taxes in Canada since then have reinforced the wisdom of the move.“The Canadian regulators could make life a lot better for Canadians if they started to really pay attention to what’s happening in the U.S.,” he said. “It just needs to compete.”His comments echo those of Suncor Energy Inc. CEO Steve Williams, who said on a conference call earlier this month that Suncor is “having to look at Canada quite hard” when deciding to invest because of the regulation and higher taxes.“Other jurisdictions are doing much more to attract businesses so Canada needs to up its game,” he said.Canadian operations accounted for less than 20 per cent of production for Enerplus in 2017.The company said Friday it earned net income of $15 million or six cents per share in the last three months of 2017, compared with $840 million or $3.43 per share in the year-earlier period, with the latter figures boosted by asset sales.Stripping out non-recurring items, its fourth quarter 2017 earnings were $61.5 million or 25 cents per share, beating analyst predictions of $5.8 million or 17 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters.Enerplus said its average realized selling price for oil jumped 22 per cent to C$65.91 in the fourth quarter. Eric Le Dain, senior vice-president of corporate development, pointed out on the call that was partly because of less competition from light oil stranded in Canada due to pipeline constraints. The company reported the discount in its realized price compared with benchmark West Texas Intermediate fell to US$1.61 per barrel in the last three months of 2017, half of the US$3.24 per barrel discount in the previous quarter.By comparison, the average discount paid for Western Canadian Select oilsands blend crude from Alberta in the fourth quarter was US$12.26 per barrel and it has since spiked at times to around US$30 per barrel, a trend also blamed on constrained pipeline access.Enerplus said it is trying to sell Canadian natural gas-prone properties producing about 5,000 boe/d after selling similar assets with about 7,700 boe/d of production in 2017.The company said higher-than-expected fourth-quarter corporate production of nearly 89,000 boe/d, an increase of 12 per cent from the third quarter, was realized mainly due to growth in oil output from North Dakota and natural gas from its Pennsylvania Marcellus wells.Follow @HealingSlowly on Twitter.Companies in this story: (TSX:ERF, TSX:SU)
