But for now, the Lakers’ on-court struggles continued. The Trail Blazers (35-18) showed off their depth, led by Wesley Mathews (20 points) and LaMarcus Aldridge (18 points). The Lakers also shot only 36.3 from the field, including a scoreless Jeremy Lin (0 of 6) and Carlos Boozer shooting 1 of 11. Rookie guard Jordan Clarkson posted a team-leading 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting and four assists in what marked his 10th consecutive start. “I’m not going to go so far to say he can be a starting point guard,” Scott said of Clarkson. “He can definitely play and be in the rotation.” Yet, Clarkson starts for the Lakers as the team reaches a development stage. That explains why Clarkson will spend the break in his hometown in San Antonio working out at his alma mater, Wagner High School. He will then return to Los Angeles on Sunday to work with Lakers veteran guard Steve Nash, who missed this season because of a back injury. “We’ll probably watch some film and then go from there,” said Clarkson, who also worked with Nash two weeks ago.As for the Lakers? Their issues hardly seem as correctable, leaving the Lakers eager to enjoy their All-Star break even if the escape provides only a temporary solution. “I was scared more than anything. I thought it was my Achilles and this is over with,” said Young, who posted 12 points on only 4-of-12 shooting. “As I gathered my thoughts and started walking, I was fine.”Young left the locker room with a mild limp, but he remained adamant the injury would not affect his All-Star break. “I’m not missing Hawaii. I’m not missing dolphins,” said Young, referring to his story that he nearly drowned after riding on a dolphin last summer. “I’m gonna go get my revenge on some dolphins.”Usually, the Lakers participated in All-Star weekend. But Kobe Bryant played only 35 games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. The Lakers are also on pace to have their worst record in franchise history. Instead, the Lakers hope the added time off will ease their minds and heal their bodies. Beyond Young’s health, the Lakers also believe forward Jordan Hill will return for Wednesday’s practice after missing the past five games because of a hip flexor strain.“Go wherever you’re going to go and try to have a good time,” Lakers coach Byron Scott said. “Hopefully you come back with a different sense of purpose.” PORTLAND >> The vacation getaways and extended time at home might give the Lakers both some rest and distance from a taxing season. But before the Lakers could enter the nearly week-long NBA All-Star break enjoying their various destination spots, two awfully familiar developments emerged. The Lakers suffered another loss, a 102-86 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday at Moda Center, adding a new dent in the purple and gold’s armor. The Lakers (13-40) lost six consecutive games and 15 of their past 16. They also dropped 11 consecutive road contests, setting a franchise record that the 1957-58 and 1963-64 teams previously owned. The Lakers also suffered another injury amid a season full of them. Lakers forward Nick Young stayed in the locker room during the fourth quarter after he strained a tendon in his left foot. Young showed discomfort after fouling Portland guard Steve Blake with .02 seconds left in the third quarter. Young limped over to the bench before heading to the locker room. It was Spurs’ fifth win in a row in all competitions and third in the Barclays Premier League and it rook them to third place, leap-frogging near neighbours Arsenal. The win at Carrow Road meant that they have now gone 11 away games without defeat for the first time since they went 16 without lost away in 1985.And Spurs have an impressive scoring rate with 44 goals; only Manchester City, with 46, have more. And 22 of those have come at home, where they have won six and drawn four of their 12 games.Watford have won four and drawn three of their 13 away games but when these teams met at Vicarage Road in last December Spurs won 2-1 with goals from Erik Lamela and Heung-Min Son, a result helped by the fact that Watford were reduced to 10 men with the score at 1-1 after Nathan Ake was dismissed. In all competitions, Spurs are unbeaten in eight games home and away against Watford, while the Hornets have lost both Premier League visits, conceding seven goals in the process (3-1 and 4-0).And Watford have lost on their last five league visits to White Hart Lane, conceding 15 goals. Their last league win there was nearly 31 years ago, in May 1985, when they thrashed Spurs 5-1.At Norwich, Spurs forward Dele Alli’s goal was the fourth quickest in the Premier League this season (1 min 36 secs) and Tottenham’s quickest in the Premier League since Boxing Day 2014 (Harry Kane vs Leicester, 57 seconds).Kane added two goals at Norwich but Alli undergoes a test after being withdrawn at half time with illness.
