Men’s Soccer Set for Rematch with Valparaiso at MVC Championship

The Crusaders scored an early first-half goal, goalkeeper Nacho Miras made a penalty-kick save Cole Poppen’s shot (Ankeny, Iowa) in the 84th minute and made another save in the 88th minute to hold on for the 1-0 win. This also marks the second straight year that Drake and Valpo meet in the opening round of the MVC Tournament as the Bulldogs won 4-2 in last year’s play-in game. Drake is vying for its first win since defeating league champion Central Arkansas, 1-0 on Sept. 29. The road defeat was the only loss for the Bears, who won the MVC regular season title in their final season in the Valley. Valpo is on a six-match unbeaten streak coming into the tournament as the impressive finish locked in the number three seed. The winner of Wednesday’s match advances to Friday’s semifinal versus No. 2 Loyola at 3 p.m. The winner of the championship earns the MVC’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
